Toronto, Ontario – July 27, 2017
The 2017 Bantam Midget Youth Championships are set to take place this weekend (Saturday July 29 – Sunday July 30) at Terry Fox Stadium at Chinguacousy Park. With nearly 1,000 athletes competing for medals, and over 1,800 entries, this event is going to be one of our largest meets of all time. This Championship is being hosted by Athletics Ontario and the Brampton Track and Field Club, and more information, including the Final Schedule, Performance List and Technical Information can be found here.
Some of the top athletes to watch will be taking part in the following events:
Events to Watch
Event: 100m Youth Girls
Event Highlights: The race will line up Tomi Bamigbade (Supreme Athletics), the 2017 WCSSAA Senior Girls 100m Champion, against Breah Walls (Border City), the 2017 OFSAA Silver Medalist in Junior Girls’ 4x100m relay, and the top seed Kyra Nicole Chang-Lewis (Etobicoke TR).
Scheduled Event Time: Heats will start at 12:00pm on Saturday July 29.
Event: 100m Youth Boys
Event Highlights: Daquan Berry won bronze medal in the 2016 OFSAA Junior Men 100m, while Brayden Fraser (House of Roots) won two bronze medals in the 2017 OFSAA Junior Men 100m and 200m.
Scheduled Event Time: Heats will start at 12:30pm on Saturday July 29.
Event: 400m Youth Girls
Event Highlights: Skyy Diop (The Gazelles), who participated in the prestigious 2017 New Balance Nationals Indoor Championship earlier this year will now be aiming for gold at the championship. The other athletes to watch are Nicole Parsons (Oakville Legion) and Maya Ryan (The Gazelles).
Scheduled Event Time: Timed Finals begin at 3:30pm on Saturday July 29.
Event: 400m Youth Boys
Event Highlights: Myles Misener-Daley (Hamilton Olympic Club) has won the triple crown of sprint races at the 2017 OFSAA track and field championships. Ethan Smith and Lukas Faulkner are the 2nd and 3rd seeds for this event, respectively.
Scheduled Event Time: Timed Finals begin at 3:30pm on Saturday July 29.
Event: 800m Youth Girls
Event Highlights: Mackenzie Morgan (Laurel Creek Track and Field Club) is the top seed for this event with the seed time of 2:11.51. Other athletes to watch are Edna Dar (Blue Devils) and Jessie Fennel (Niagara Regional Athletics).
Scheduled Event Time: Timed Finals begin at 2:40pm on Sunday July 30.
Event: 800m Youth Boys
Event Highlights: Brock Deba (Niagara Olympic Club) won silver medal in the 2017 OFSAA Junior Men 800m. He will be competing against the top seed Sam Cummings (South Simcoe Dufferin TFC) and Joshua Desouza (Newmarket Huskies Track Club), who won silver medal in 3,000m at the 2017 Youth Commonwealth Games in Nassau, Bahamas.
Scheduled Event Time: Timed Finals begin at 3:20 on Sunday July 30.
Event: Youth Girls High Jump
Event Highlights: Having won bronze at OFSAA in June, No. 1 seed Korina Black (Etobicoke Track and Field Club) will be aiming for gold at this weekends championships. Other athletes to watch are Madelyn Eybergen (Saugeen Track and Field) and Katie Robertson (North Bay Legion).
Scheduled Event Time: Event will begin at 3:30pm on Saturday July 29.
Event: Youth Boys High Jump
Event Highlights: Sam Hall (University of Toronto Track Club) is the athlete to watch at this event. Hall represented Team Canada at the Bahamas 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games this summer, winning the silver medal at 2.09M jump. Returning only earlier this week, he will be looking to get a gold.
Scheduled Event Time: Event will begin at 3:00pm on Sunday July 30.
Event: Youth Girls Long Jump
Event Highlights: Sarah Saldutto (Niagara Regional Athletics) had set a new record of 5.84M at OFSAA Championships in June. She is the top seed heading into this event. Jasmine Scott-Kilgo from Border City Athletics Club, is not far behind as the second seed with 5.62M. Tamara Grahovac from Supreme Athletics is currently in third at 5.53M. It will be an exciting event seeing these three girls fight to get to the podium.
Scheduled Event Time: Event will begin at 2:45pm on Sunday July 30.
Event: Youth Boys Long Jump
Event Highlights: Matthew MacNeill (London Western), Shahmir Khan (Supreme Athletics) and Jared Hall (University of Toronto Track Club) are currently in 1st, 2nd and 3rd rankings in the Youth Boys Long Jump. With only 0.07M apart from each others personal best, these boys will definitely fight it out to take home the gold this weekend.
Scheduled Event Time: Event will begin at 3:30pm on Saturday July 29.
Event: Youth Girls Shot Put
Event Highlights: This event is not the be missed as Audrey O’Connor (University of Windsor Athletics), Natasha Gubbels (London Western) and Grace Michauville (North Bay) will fight to beat current 1st seed Tamia Noel with her record of 13.57M. All three girls are following closely behind with marks at 12.75M, 12.59M and 12.24M respectively. Tamia will be aim to beat her own personal best.
Scheduled Event Time: Event will begin at 3:30pm on Saturday July 29.
Event: Youth Boys Shot Put
Event Highlights: Most recently called to represent Team Ontario at the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships next month, No.1 seed Cole Belkwell (Brantford Track and Field Club) will be at the meet this weekend. 2nd seed Lucas Woodhall (Brockville Legion Track and Field), who won Gold in Shot Put at the OFSAA Championships in June will fight for gold with Belkwell. This will be an event worth watching.
