The World Para Athletics Championships came to an end this past weekend.  They were an exciting 10 days and our Ontario athletes put on some stellar performances.  Of the nine Canadian medals earned, we had one Ontario athlete bring home a medal. Jason Dunkerley, who ran in the T11 1500m, ran a season best time of 4:13.67 and took home the silver.  Along with this medal, George Quarcoo set a new personal best as well as a new Canadian record in both the 100m and the 200m heats. Additionally, Renée Foessel set a new Area record with her F38 Discus throw of 30.97m and Austin Smeenk’s time of 15.85 sec. in the T34 100m Heats also set a new Area record.

Mitchell Chase – T38 1500m
- Friday July 14 – T38 800m Heats
- Mitchell Chase placed 3rd in his heat with a time of 2:11.33 in the men’s T38 800m.
- Saturday July 22- T38 1500m Final
- Mitchell Chase placed 7th in the men’s T38 1500m final with a time of 4:28.31.
Isaiah Christophe – T54 200m
- Friday July 14 – T54 100m Heats
- Isaiah Christophe placed 8th in his heat with a time of 15.38 in the men’s T54 100m.
- Tuesday July 18 – T54 200m Heats
- Isaiah Christophe placed 8th in his heat with a time of 27.17 in the men’s T54 200m.
- Wednesday July 19 – T54 400m Heats
- Isaiah Christophe placed 6th in his heat with a time of 52.80 in the men’s T54 400m heats
Thomas Des Brisay – T20 5000m
- Monday July 17 – T20 1500m Finals
- Thomas Des Brisay placed 12th with a time of 4:50.77 in the men’s T20 1500m final
- Sunday July 23 – T20 5000m Finals
- Thomas Des Brisay placed 8th with a time of 15:48.93 in the men’s T20 5000m final
Jason Dunkerley – T11 1500m
- Friday July 21 – T11 1500m Final
- Jason Dunkerley and guide Jeremie Nathaniel Venne won a silver medal with a time of 4:13.67 while running a seasons best in the men’s T11 1500m final.
Renée Foessel – F38 Discus
- Thursday July 20 – T38 Discus
- Renee Foessel placed 4th with a distance of 30.97m in the Women’s F38 discus throw. With her throw she set an Area Record.
Marissa Papaconstaninou – T44 200m
- Monday July 17 – T44 100m Heats
- Marissa Papaconstantinou placed 6th with a time of 13.54 in the Women’s T44 100m final
- Saturday July 22 – T44 200m Heats
- Marissa Papaconstantinou placed 4th in her heat with a time of 28.33, which helped her qualify for the finals in the women’s T44 200m.
- Sunday July 23 – T44 200 Final
- Marissa Papaconstantinou placed 8th with a time of 58.06 in the women’s T44 200m final. Having battled the rain and pulling a muscle during the race, Marissa pulled thru and finished the race.
George Quarcoo – T12 100m
- Friday July 14 – T12 100m Heats
- George Quarcoo and guide Demitry Issajenko set a personal best with a time of 11.41, placing second in their heat in the men’s T12 100m. Along with setting a new PB, the pair set a new Canadian Record
- Wednesday July 19 – T12 200m Heats
- George Quarcoo and Guide Demitry Issajenko set a personal best with a time of 23.19 in the Men’s 200m T12 heats. Along with setting another personal best, the time of 23.19 also set a new Canadian Record.
Austin Smeenk – T34 400m
- Saturday July 15 – T34 100m Heats
- Austin Smeenk placed 4th with a time of 15.85sec in the Men’s T34 100m. His time of 15.85 set an area record.
- Monday July 17 – T34 400m Final
- Austin Smeenk placed 6th with a time of 54.56 in the men’s T34 400m final
- Thursday July 20 – T34 800m Final
- Austin Smeenk placed 8th with a time of 1:50.77 in the Men’s T34 800m finals.
- Friday July 21 – T34 200m Final
- Austin Smeenk placed 5th with a time of 28.57 in the men’s T34 200m final
Curtis Thom – T54 4x400m
- Friday July 14 – T54 100m Heats
- Curtis Thom placed 7th with a time of 17.78sec in the Men’s T54 100m final
- Tuesday July 18 – T54 200m Heats
- Curtis Thom placed 4th in his heat with a time of 26.55 in the men’s T54 200m.
- Wednesday July 19 – T54 400m Heats
- Curtis Thom placed 4th with a time of 48.30 in the men’s T54 400m heats.
Kyle Whitehouse – T38 200m
- Tuesday July 18 – T38 200m Final
- Kyle Whitehorse placed 6th with a time of 23.82 in the men’s T38 200m final
- Friday July 21 – T38 100m Heats / Finals
- Kyle Whitehouse placed 4th in his heat in the Men’s T38 100m. His time of 11.72 gave him a seasons best and allowed him to qualify for the finals, finishing in 8th place with a time of 11.84.
